Covid scare in China; Center’s warning to states As Covid cases rise in China, Center asks states to step up tracking of variants

New Delhi: In the wake of increasing cases of Covid in China and other countries, the Center has alerted the states.

The Union Health Ministry has written to all states to submit samples of positive cases to genome sequencing laboratories on a priority basis. The US, Japan, Korea, Brazil and China have seen a huge increase in Covid cases. In this case genome sequencing of positive cases should be increased. These should be monitored by the Indian SARS-CoV2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG). That way new varieties can be found in the country. Through this, necessary public health measures can be taken – said the letter sent to the states by Health Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan.

After the strict restrictions were lifted in China, there was an increase in the number of Covid cases. The spread of the new covid variant is being studied by the health department in the US and elsewhere.
