The Ministry of Health announced this Friday that the covid-19 situation in the country is improving, this taking into account that in recent weeks ICU infections and hospitalizations for this virus have decreased, which also means that the fourth peak is about to finish.
“It is an encouraging picture, although we have to examine it with caution, but it is certainly a picture that fills us with hope for the future of the pandemic, especially considering that the least impact observed in this decreasing wave was thanks to vaccination” commented Julián Fernández, director of Epidemiology and Demography of the Ministry of Health.

Fernández stressed that at the national level there is a decrease in the figures for covid-19 infections, which in this phase have mostly been omicron, for which it is prudent to consider that the fourth peak of infections is already being overcome in the country.
Although the health authorities detailed that currently, there is a ratio for every 1 patient hospitalized for the virus, there are 3 people hospitalized for other pathologies, Fernández stressed that the figures are encouraging, it is not yet time to relax care or safety measures. biosecurity.
“We have to be cautious and watch out for the still relatively uncertain behavior of the omicron subvariant. That is why it is very important to maintain the use of the mask, basic biosecurity measures and accelerate vaccination,” he mentioned.

Meanwhile, Fernández emphasized that for the situation of covid-19 in Colombia to continue to be encouraging, it is necessary to strengthen vaccination, since this has been a tool for overcoming the crisis caused by this virus.
