Crackdown on Violators: Saudi Arabia’s Strict Measures on Residence, Employment, and Border Security

Yambu: Strong checks are being carried out in different parts of Saudi Arabia to arrest those who violate the rules of residence, employment and border security. The Ministry of Home Affairs informed that 11,465 expatriates were caught from different parts of the country within a week from September 21 to 27. All these people were arrested during the joint inspection campaign conducted by various units of various security departments.

According to the Ministry, 7,199 people were arrested for violating the Residence Act, 2,882 people for violating the Border Security Act, and 1,384 people for violating the Labor Act. 711 people were arrested while trying to cross the border into the country. Among them, 52 percent are Yemenis, 45 percent are Ethiopians, and 14 percent are from other countries. 42 law breakers were caught trying to get out of Saudi Arabia.

15 people who smuggled and gave shelter to those violating the rules of residence and employment and were aiding and abetting the violation of the law have been arrested. A total of 43,772 violators are currently being prosecuted for violating the rules. Out of which 36,404 are male and 7,368 are female. Of those apprehended, 38,379 violators were referred to their respective countries’ embassies for rectification of travel documents and deportation.

1,704 violators were referred to complete their travel reservations. 7,922 violators have already been deported. It is a serious offense to facilitate the entry or provide transport, shelter or any other aid or service to a person attempting to enter the country. The Ministry of Home Affairs has repeatedly warned that whoever commits such crimes will be punished with imprisonment of up to 15 years and a maximum fine of one lakh Riyals.
