Cracking Down on Visa Misuse: The Australian Government’s Action for Foreign Students

Sydney – The Australian government has amended the law to control foreign students who misuse their visas by leaving the main course they came to study and switching to vocational sub-courses.

Education Minister Jason Clare has announced that a loophole in study visas that allow students to enroll in other courses that help them gain employment has been closed.

The visa reform prevents complete transfer to the second course before the 6 months required to stay in the main course. The bank deposit requirement for foreign students has also been updated. The amount increased by 17% to $15,693.
