‘The crane returns the favor’, stays close to injured man in northern India

A man’s act of kindness in northern India led to a strong friendship between the man and the crane.

About a year ago, Mohammad Arif, who lives in Uttar Pradesh, found an injured Sarus Crane in his field. He took the crane home, treated it with the medicines he had at home, and cared for it a lot until it recovered.

I thought the crane would return to the wild once its injuries healed, but the crane never left Arif. Since then, the two have developed a warm friendship.

Today, the cranes rarely leave Alif’s side.

“Depending on the day, they fly away, but they always come back by sunset,” Arif said. “Friendships grow only when there is freedom.”
