Creating a Disney-Inspired Masterpiece: Emily’s Journey on Best Pastry Chef

This week, the candidates for Best Pastry Chef prepared their cake for the creative test in the magnificent setting of Disneyland Paris, the amusement park which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. They had to make a dessert in the image of their favorite Disney character and our Belgian in the competition, Emily, chose to please a loved one: “I decided to represent Stitch, who is my dad’s favorite character “, she declares, just before launching into a little imitation of the character (see video).

She prepares her cake using sponge cake, nectarine compote, almond-whipped ganache and cereal crunch. “I’m going to cover everything with buttercream to give a bit of a Stitch ‘hair’ effect,” she adds.

Ultra motivated by this challenge, Emily “gives everything” to make the Stitch as close as possible.

When presenting his cake to the show’s jury, Cyril Lignac and Mercotte are unanimous about the visual: “It’s beautiful, eh”, first says the pastry chef, very impressed. “What really works is having done the buttercream coating and having played with the material. It’s beautiful, it has the beautiful color, it has big ears. We recognize Stitch 100%,” he adds.

Mercotte is also charmed: “You even made the pink ears, it’s great, well done,” she enthuses.

The guest chef, Julien Dugourd, is a little less impressed by the visual: he would have preferred that she made a smoother-looking Stitch.

Upon tasting, Emily’s cake pleased the jury but they still noted a “lack of pep”. Our Belgian candidate does not win this event but this week again, she shows that she has every chance of winning the Best Pastry Chef competition.
