CS: demonstration in Zurich against a form of “scam”

After the takeover of Credit Suisse by UBS, several hundred people demonstrated on Monday evening on Paradeplatz in Zurich. The Young Socialists and other organizations and parties had called for protest against a form of ‘scam’.

It is outrageous that the big bank has gotten rich for years and now the community has to pay. The establishment has distributed billions in bonuses and dividends, note the organizers in the call to demonstrate. Those responsible must be held to account.

‘Private profits, losses for the State’, one could read on a banner. During the demonstration, slogans such as ‘break the power of banks and multinationals!’ were chanted.

Fighting the climate crisis, providing secure old-age provision or helping people seeking protection are supposedly too expensive, but not bailing out the banks, stressed several speakers. They called for ‘decency’ and ‘responsibility’. ‘If the world was a bank, you would have saved it a long time ago,’ proclaimed a banner.

In addition to the Young Socialists, the climate strike movement, the Young Greens, the Zurich PS, the Zurich Greens, the Alternative List, the Zurich feminist strike collective and Unia also participated in this demonstration, which was authorized.
