The Unitary Central of Workers (CUT) anticipated that it will request that the minimum wage reach $630,000 by the end of the administration of President Gabriel Boric.

In an interview with La Tercera, the president of the CUT, David Acuña, stated that “a living wage must be generated, enough to live on. Today the poverty line for a household of four people is $603,000.”

In July the head of state’s campaign commitment will be fulfilled and thus the minimum wage will reach 500 thousand pesos. This, after a series of increases. Even so, for the CUT the amount is not enough.

It was in April of last year that an agreement of $410,000 to $440,000 was reached on May 1, 2023, then – on September 1 – it reached 460,000 pesos. It is expected that on July 1 of this year it will reach $500 thousand.

“It is a minimum that we need and that is what we are going to begin to promote in the next negotiation,” he added. In this way, the CUT will request an increase to $630 thousand in March 2026.

Last week, the CUT carried out the first national strike so far this year. In the instance, they mobilized against the Government and Congress, accusing unfulfilled promises, according to radio Bío B.
