Cyberpunk 2077 continues to panic the counters again and again since the deployment of update 1.6 and the release of the Edgerunners anime. After experiencing an unprecedented resurgence in popularity, CD Projekt RED’s software is now tackling the studio’s colossus: The Witcher 3.

An unexpected comeback

Much of the video game world declared him dead and buried, but Cyberpunk 2077 is not dead, far from it! CD Projekt RED’s game is currently recording the highest activity scores since its launch nearly two years ago. After the chaotic publication that we all know, it seems that the resilience of the Polish studio teams has started to pay off. It’s very simple, in the space of a few days, Cyberpunk 2077 has quadrupled its number of active players.

A sudden success and, let’s admit it, quite unexpected, which the game owes mainly to the release of Edgerunners animated seriesa real nugget animated by the Japanese studio TRIGGER (Darling in the Franxx, Kill la Kill, Promare…). To accompany this release, the app has been enriched with anime-inspired content with the rollout of Update 1.6 as well as a price drop of almost 50% for a limited time. Enough to allow Cyberpunk to take off in the Steam charts. After more than ten days, the software continues its exceptional rise.

V stronger than Geralt

As positive reviews from Steam players continue to climb on the game’s page, it looks like Cyberpunk 2077 has hit another milestone in popularity. After crossing the bar of 100,000 active players, the software’s stats swell even more and now overshadow a video game monument and another CD Projekt title: The Witcher 3. It’s now official, Cyberpunk 2077 has exceeded the maximum active player threshold reached by The Witcher 3, at 104,827 against 103,329.

Currently, Cyberpunk 2077 is doing even better with 122,205 players online and at the same time becoming the third best-selling game on Steam at the moment. An attraction as massive as it is sudden, which should not only delight the CD Projekt RED teams who have frankly drooled over it, but also perhaps push them to reconsider their roadmap. We remind it, Cyberpunk 2077 should soon be entitled to an expansion called Phantom Libertywhich should nevertheless be the one and only DLC. Could this success lead the studio to work on additional expansions? We sincerely hope so.
