Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that 12 million copies of the Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy video game have sold out just two weeks after its release.

Discovery, holder of the rights to the Harry Potter license, has announced that the latest video game from the magical world of the sorcerer’s apprentice had torn off 12 million copies. This represents revenue of more than 850 million dollars, points out the American site Business Insider.
Released on February 10, the title achieved these sales performances in the space of just two weeks. This ranks it among the biggest video game successes of recent years, such as Cyberpunk 2077, despite its catastrophic launch, or Elden Ring, crowned game of the year 2022.
In Europe, Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy got off to a record start. Apart from the annual episodes of Fifa or Call of Dutywe had to go back to 2018 and the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 to find such an important launch.
An increase in sales to be expected
All this despite the controversies surrounding the title. Strongly criticized since his remarks deemed transphobic, the British novelist JK Rowling is more than a debate among Harry Potter fans. Calls for a video game boycott were launched ahead of the release of Hogwarts Legacy.
The objective was to limit as much as possible the income received by the creator of the literary saga. Because even without having been involved in its development, JK Rowling will receive royalties on game sales linked to the use of the magical universe she created.
Anyway, the sales figures ofHogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy should still grow. For the time being, the video game developed by Avalanche Software – which has slipped a transgender character into its game – is not yet available on all consoles. Only owners of a PC or a latest generation console (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series) can enjoy it. The PS4 and Xbox One versions of the title will be released on April 4. To play it on Nintendo Switch, you will have to wait until July 25.
