This Wednesday, Benoît Cosnefroy (Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale) won the Flèche Brabançonne in the sprint. On the list, the Frenchwoman succeeds Dorian Godon, winner in 2023.

On the podium in three of the last four editions (2nd in 2022 and 3rd in 2020 and 2023), Benoit Cosnefroy finally won the Flèche Brabançonne this year. This Wednesday, the Frenchman (Decathlon-AG2R La Mondial) dominated a group of seven runners in the sprint and thus succeeds his teammate Dorian Godon on the list of winners. If the start of the race was very lively, notably with a nice morning breakaway then several accelerations throughout the day, we had to wait until the last kilometers to see things a little more clearly. Indeed, in the last lap, while the Belgians Dylan Teuns (Israel-Premier Tech) and Tim Wellens (UAE Team Emirates) and the Dutchman Marijn van den Berg (EF Education-EasyPost) seemed to be able to play for the final victory , the trio was taken over by four other riders, including Cosnefroy. In the last meters, If van den Berg tried his luck but was too short to win during this 74th edition of the Flèche Brabançonne, it was the Frenchman who managed to come out on top at the finish.

Cosnefroy: “Here, I feel at home”

« I am very happy. Here I feel at home. Very, very happy to win here, it’s never easy to win a race. This (Wednesday) morning, I knew I had good legs, I was among the favorites, but it’s really not an easy race to read. (…) I had doubts about the route (one less climb), but ultimately, it doesn’t change much and it takes away the risk. Ready for the Ardennes? Yeah, there’s already one in four taken. The three that follow are not the easiest, far from it, but, in any case, I arrive in good shape. That’s good,” Cosnefroy subsequently reacted, speaking to Eurosport. The latter signs the 17th victory of his career, and the 4th already this season, he who notably distinguished himself during the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes. A few days before the Amstel Gold Race (April 14), the puncher from the Decathlon-AG2R La Mondial team showed that we should certainly count on him this Sunday. For its part, its team won its 9th success in 2024 at the Flèche Brabançonne.
