Rigoberto Uran wins the 17th stage of the Vuelta
The Colombian won Wednesday’s stage, finishing at the top of the Monastery of Tentudia pass. Remco Evenepoel retains the red jersey.
Colombian Rigoberto Uran (EF Education-EasyPost) won the 17th stage of the Tour of Spain on Wednesday, where Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step) kept his red jersey.
The 35-year-old veteran was stronger than Quentin Pacher (Groupama-FDJ) and Jesus Herrada (Cofidis) in the last hectometres, after a real battle between the breakaways of the day in the last kilometers of the Col du Monastère of Tentudia.
Present in the group at the front of thirteen riders who crossed the line more than five minutes before the favorites, the Bernese Gino Mäder took 11th place in the stage, just over two minutes behind Uran . Valaisan Sébastien Reichenbach finished 34th, 7’40” from the winner of the day. Zurich’s Fabian Lienhard, meanwhile, arrived with the little group, nearly twenty minutes later.
After the abandonment of Primoz Roglic (Jumbo) on Wednesday morning, Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step) is two minutes and one second ahead of his new runner-up in general Enric Mas (Movistar) and 4 minutes and 51 seconds over hope 19-year-old Spaniard Juan Ayuso (UAE). Gino Mäder is 24th, while Reichenbach is 27th.
Thursday, the peloton tackles one of the last mountain stages of the 2022 edition with two first category passes between Trujillo and the Col du Piornal.
