Cyril Hanouna was at the heart of a scandal, this Monday, May 23. The host had planned to invite Jawad Bendaoud on the set of “Touche pas à mon poste”. At the last minute, he retracted and explained the reasons at the end of his show. A justification that has outraged Internet users.

This Monday, May 23, a big controversy has emerged on social networks. By announcing its guest of the day on Twitter, the show “Do not touch My TV”, found itself in a real media turmoil. “On November 18, 2015, France discovered Jawad Bendaoud, ‘the landlord’. Released and then sentenced on appeal after the attacks for ‘concealment of terrorist criminals’, Jawad has served his sentence and has decided to come out of silence. He will speak tonight live in TPMP“, could we read on Twitter. A message that caused strong anger and one feeling of incomprehension total on the web. In the face of thousands of outraged tweets, Cyril Hanouna made a big decision during the evening: he canceled the presence of his guest at the last minute.

“You disgust me”

A few minutes before the broadcast of a new number of “Touche pas à mon poste” live, the TPMP Twitter account deleted his tweet. Then, Cyril Hanouna shared a personal message on the social network. “Jawad Bendaoud was to be invited to TPMP tonight. In a case like this, only the opinion of the victims counts. So I made the decision to cancel the interview. I’ll explain everything to you this evening”, he thus announced. But for many Internet users, “the damage was already done”. Many Twitter users have expressed their anger and “disgust” at the idea that this man has a voice in the media. Offended by the simple fact that Cyril Hanouna thought of inviting him, Twitter subscribers stressed the disrespect of such a decision for all victims and families of victims.

A long wait

Following this scandal, viewers were impatiently awaiting the host’s explanations. Throughout his show, Cyril Hanouna teased his future development, however, it took until 9:10 p.m. for him to actually mention the subject. For Internet users, talking about it at the end of the program is just a way to create more buzz on the subject.

Cyril Hanouna’s explanation

At 9:10 p.m., Cyril Hanouna therefore began to justify himself. “We wanted to invite him tonight so that he can come back to everything that happened. It’s true that it reacted enormously on that”, he started, before adding: “If we wanted to invite him, it wasn’t to do a complacent interview with Jawad. But it’s because we are watched a lot by young people, young people who sometimes don’t really know where they are and who can do anything and everything. They can find themselves in terrorist networks, or in networks of criminals. I wanted to invite him this evening to make him face up to his responsibilities and to show young people that it is not necessary to listen to everything and anything.” However, as he explained, one tweet would have turned everything upside down.

“I made the decision to cancel it following a tweet from Brunella Emmanuelli, who challenged me on Twitter,” explained the host. Cyril Hanouna then read this heartbreaking tweet: “Never in my life would I have imagined myself writing to you to ask this. Cyril Hanouna, it is with a lump in my throat that I beg you not to do this to us. When I speaks of ‘us’, it is in the name of all the victims of the attacks of November 13. ALL the victims.” A moving message that plunges us back into the horror of this terrible night.

“The real reason is the buzz”

Cyril Hanouna therefore concluded his clarification: “Following this tweet, I made the decision not to receive it because for me, the main people concerned are the victims and the families of the victims. I think I have taken the right decision.” Faced with his explanation, Internet users remained skeptical. For them, it was just a “lie” and a “poor justification”. The anger has not come down to Twitter.

The explanation therefore did not convince Internet users. Nevertheless, Cyril Hanouna still canceled the presence of Jawad Bendaoud and some welcomed this decision.
