DA Architecture’s ‘Apgujeong APG (Apeje)’ won the Apgujeong Apartment Special Planning Zone 2 Reconstruction Design Competition

The ‘Apgujeong Apartment Special Planning Zone 2 Reconstruction Design Service’, which costs 14.4 billion won in design service alone, was embraced by DA Group Engineering General Architects Office (hereinafter referred to as DA Architecture).
According to the construction industry on the 24th, at the regular general meeting of the ‘Apgujeong Apartment Special Planning Zone 2 Reconstruction Maintenance Business Association’ held on the same day, a vote was held to select a reconstruction design service, and DA Architecture was selected as the design service company.
This project is to rebuild the 9th, 11th, and 12th units of Shin Hyundai Apartment in the area of 434 Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu (land area: 205,478.03㎡) with about 2,700 units and a total floor area of 652,913㎡.
Apgujeong Apartment Special Planning Area 2 Reconstruction Design Service was set at 14.4 billion won in design cost, and since it was conducted in Apgujeong, one of the richest villages in Korea, there was great interest in the construction industry as to who would win the order.
A three-way battle was held between DA Architecture, Samwoo Architects and Engineers, one of the top architectural firms in Korea, and ANU Design Group Architects and Engineers (ANU), a powerhouse in residential design.
The voting results were also close. Out of 1463 votes, DA Architecture (675 votes) beat Samwoo Architecture (609 votes) by a margin of 66 votes. ANU received 179 votes.
On this day, DA Architects presented the ‘Apgujeong Apeze (APG)’, a design plan inspired by the Palace of Versailles in France, to the union members.
Shim Hyung-joon, president of DA Architects, who gave a PR presentation (PT) to union members, said, “We explored wealthy villages in New York and Miami while preparing the reconstruction plan for Special Planning Area 2.” Whether or not a beautiful natural view is secured determines the property value of a residential complex,” he said.
He continued, “This is the reason why we wanted to ensure unobstructed views of the Han River for all generations of members of the Apgujeong Apartment Special Planning Zone 2 reconstruction by arranging only six main buildings.”
In addition, DA Architecture presented △3 parking spaces per household △drop-off (boarding and alighting space) and concierge (comprehensive convenience facility) installation in all main buildings △dedicated warehouse for each household △1 elevator per household △private gallery and storage. The fact that Dominique Perrault, a world-renowned French architect, joined the DA consortium is also interpreted as capturing the hearts of the members of the reconstruction association for the Apgujeong Apartment Special Planning Zone 2. On the 20th (local time), Perot served as a speaker for the Busan Expo bid committee at the 2030 World Expo (Expo) competition presentation (PT) held in Paris, France.
Meanwhile, 10,000 apartment units located in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, such as Miseong, Hyundai, and Hanyang, are divided into six districts and are promoting integrated reconstruction.
In addition to Apgujeong Apartment Special Planning Area 2, which selected a reconstruction design company on this day, special planning area 4 and special planning area 3 are in the process of selecting a reconstruction design company.
An industry insider said, “Among the Apgujeong-dong reconstruction projects, the speed of progress was the fastest, and the Apgujeong Apartment Special Planning Area 2 design service contract, which drew attention from the construction industry, ended with DA’s victory.” Competition in the construction industry over the reconstruction design service for districts 3 and 4 will intensify,” he said.
