The OÖNachrichten initiated the Daidalos and developed it together with the Chamber of Civil Engineers for Upper Austria and Salzburg. Other partners include Energie AG, Hypo Oberösterreich, WAG, Land Oberösterreich, Neue Heimat, WSG and afo architekturforum Oberösterreich.

“I’ve been self-employed for more than 20 years. You might think you’ve seen everything, but that’s not the case. There’s always something new and fascinating,” said Civil Engineering Chamber President Cora Stöger. Architects section chairman Michael Strobl spoke of “tremendous challenges in the future”: “There is a lot to do, we have to develop projects, places and cities together.”

Energy, interest, housing

Energie-AG CEO Leonhard Schitter emphasized that the ambitious corporate strategy envisages climate neutrality by 2035. “Green over fossil fuels, we take that seriously, it’s about the future of our children.”

Hypo-Oberösterreich CEO Klaus Kumpfmüller explained: “We expect interest rates to fall significantly over the course of the year, which will benefit everyone who finances.”

Robert Oberleitner, managing director of Neue Heimat, sees “reconstruction, photovoltaics and electromobility” as the three central topics that are taken into account in all residential construction projects.

WSG boss Stefan Hutter said that architects are increasingly being invited to contribute ideas, which result in a variety of ideas towards sustainability.

For State Councilor Michaela Langer-Weninger, who took over the patronage of the special prize, architecture says “a lot about the client, time and society”. She is particularly happy about wooden construction.

From the jury’s reasoning: When revitalizing a more or less windowless tobacco warehouse from the 1930s into a building that offers offices and workshop rooms, the working group took a consistent approach that fits almost inconspicuously into the historical ensemble in a monument-appropriate manner .

Dark black: The Salzburg architectural firm Dunkelschwarz won in the “Sophisticatedly Planned” category with the new construction of the valley station of the Schafbergbahn in St. Wolfgang.

From the jury’s statement: The project succeeds in combining a technically and functionally demanding construction task with a symbolic architecture. This not only reflects the important tradition of industrial and train station architecture, but also combines impressively with the scenic qualities of the place.

Schremmer Jell: The Linz architectural firm Schremmer-Jell won the special “Proven Buildings” prize, which focuses on older buildings and plans, with the revitalization of the cloth factory in Linz-Auwiesen (mixed use).

From the jury’s statement: The planners integrated, among other things, a new church space into the high-quality historic factory building, which creates a fascinating atmospheric effect thanks to its differentiated, bright lighting and the spatial layering of the external boundaries.
