Dallas Cowboys Linked to Cardinals Edge Rusher Josh Sweat Before Nov. 10 Trade Deadline

The Dallas Cowboys are in freefall after a 33-30 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8 of the NFL season left them at 3-5 and in a pinch to turn things around quickly. With the NFL trade deadline coming up on Nov. 10, owner and general manager Jerry Jones is reportedly weighing one of his famous splashy moves, and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano have linked Dallas to Cardinals star edge rusher Josh Sweat.

Fowler reports that Sweat has been linked to Dallas, which could be in the pass-rush market but hasn’t made any moves there yet — a position the Cowboys have had their eye on for a long time. “The sense I get from teams in the edge rusher market is that Sweat would prefer a new deal as part of a trade — or at least a sweetener, such as a raise on his $18.1 million salary this year or next,” Fowler says.

Contract rework could be a hurdle

Sweat is in the second year of a four-year, $76 million contract, and Fowler adds that wanting it reworked so early in the deal could be a hurdle to a trade. Teams in the edge rusher market sense that the financial demands may complicate any potential move for Dallas before the deadline.

Deadline pressure mounts for Dallas

With the trade deadline set for Nov. 10, Jones faces a narrow window to address the Cowboys’ pass-rush needs. The ESPN report suggests the Cowboys could still make a move for another star edge rusher before too long, even if it is not Maxx Crosby.
