This streak has no precedent since the play-by-play of each game has been recorded (1997). At least in the last 27 years, no one reached a mark similar to Gafford’swhich surpassed what was done by Derrick Favors en 2020who then noted 22 consecutive shots with the New Orleans Pelicans -distributed over 3 games-.
Of these 28 baskets scored consecutively by Gafford, nothing less than 16 were assisted by Doncicwho has become the best friend of every Mavericks interior: just a week ago, Luka helped the rookie Dereck Lively scored 18 field goals in a row.
In fact, Lively’s streak ended exactly the same day Gafford’s began -March 3 against Philadelphia.
An even more compelling fact to understand the Doncic effect: among all NBA players with at least 1,000 minutes in the season, Lively has the best field percentage (74%), while Gafford is second (71%). Luka is obviously a lot of fun to play with.
