Ahead of the Chinese Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo denied rumors that he would be given two extra races, threatening to be fired if he failed to perform, as was recently the case with Nyck de Vries.

Daniel Ricciardo: “I haven’t heard of any ultimatum. Anything can happen, I have no illusions about it, but so far there are no signs of a possible dismissal. My team and I communicate every day, I wish I knew something about it. Maybe it’s my experience, because last year I showed good speed, which was not always noticeable at McLaren.

The team was happy to have me back. For some reason this year the results leave a lot to be desired, but they know the speed is there. We just need to get everything in place.

Now we return to the previous mutual understanding, the work continues. I’m not a beginner trying to get a foothold in the sport and prove something. I have a track record, I have proof of my worth. The team believes in me and my abilities, together we do everything to achieve more. I don’t want it to last all year and I don’t expect it to last that long. Like I said, I’m not a beginner.”
