Defending Miami Open CHAMPION Daniil Medvedev advanced to the quarter-finals following beating German Dominik Koepfer 7-6 (7/5) and 6-0, Tuesday (26/3).

The Russian started the match badly, making a series of unforced errors and trailing 4-0 in the first set tie break.

However, following managing to turn things around and win the first set, Medvedev appeared dominant in the second set to achieve a landslide victory.

Medvedev claimed his victory occurred because Koepfer failed to recover following his lead in the tie break in the first set vanished.

“I think that sometimes happens, when you lose like he did in the first set. He performed well and even almost won following leading 4-0 in the tie break. However, when you fail to take advantage of that, it can make your enthusiasm dwindle,” said Medvedev.

“I took advantage of that in the second set. That’s why it’s important to control emotions during the match,” he continued.

In the quarter-final match, the world number four will face Chile’s Nicolas Jarry, who eliminated seventh seed from Norway Casper Ruud 7-6 (7/3) and 6-3. (AFP/Z-1)
