Danish Drone and Russian Vessel Face-Off Near Bornholm

A Danish uncrewed surface vessel and a Russian reconnaissance drone observed each other for several minutes in the Baltic Sea near Bornholm on June 25 after a Russian warship approached the autonomous craft at close range.

Vessel Deployment and Radar Testing

The autonomous craft involved in the encounter was the Stormborn X-Wave 01, a specialized uncrewed surface vessel anchored roughly 30 kilometers (19 miles) southeast of Bornholm. According to operational details from the testing phase, the vessel was deployed to conduct trials on its onboard radar and sonar systems. During these routine engineering checks, the Russian corvette Soobrazitelny approached the stationary Danish drone at close range, prompting a period of mutual observation that lasted for several minutes.
