De Graafschap started the game brighter than Jong Ajax and also had the first chance of the match. After a good header from Devin Haen, a shot from Tristan van Gilst ended up just wide. A little later, Van Gilst tried again – after Ajax lost the ball in the build-up – and the shot went well over Jong Ajax’s goal. The visitors from Amsterdam then had two good opportunities to score. First, a cross from Raphaël Sarfo was just too sharp for striker Julian Rijkhoff and then Kian Fitz-Jim pushed the ball past the goal. The Super farmers could have made it 1-0 via Van Gilst (shot blocked) and Joran Hardeman (bet blocked after a scrimmage). The biggest chance of the first half was created just before half-time, when a good cross from David Flakus Bosilj was almost turned into his own goal by Julian Brandes. Young Ajax goalkeeper Tom de Graaff barely prevented the 1-0.

De Graafschap also looked for the opening goal after the break and came close to scoring through Flakus Bosilj. A sharp cross from Alexander Büttner ended up at Flakus Bosilj, who saw his header turned away by De Graaff. On the other side of the field, Jong Ajax came out quickly, there was no whistle when Büttner went to the ground and rounded Banel (0-1). Substitutes Giovanni Büttner and Mimoun Mahi immediately became dangerous shortly after coming on, but the latter shot just wide. Ralf Seuntjens then put the ball perfectly back to Büttner, who forgot to pull the trigger. In the final phase, Mahi and Van Gilst were close to the equalizer, but there was always an Ajax leg in between. Via Chourak it became 0-2 in the final seconds.
