Dead Space: sublime! Survival horror remake confirmed in trailer

The first Dead Space dates from 2008 and the last to be released dates back to 2013. It will therefore have been necessary to wait ten years to see the franchise come back to life.

In a very dark trailer, Electronic Arts announces the remake for January 27, 2023.

The first Dead Space trailer by Electronic Arts

Dead Space is a cult survival-horror game between 2008 and 2013. The sci-fi title reproduced a truly creepy atmosphere. Developped by Visceral Games, the first opus was immediately a success. Two other parts followed before falling into complete silence.

The remake was not confirmed by Electronic Arts until July 2021. EA Motives will take charge of the project. The trailer features a mix of gameplay and in-game cutscenes. Thanks to the engine Frostbyte, the game receives a major improvement in terms of graphics. We obviously find Isaac Clarke, emblematic character of the title, aboard the USG Ishimura. The textures of the protagonist, as well as monsters and their environment, are well detailed.

Barely the first trailer and gameplay video released, various comparisons between the original game and the remake are emerging.

Gameplay overhaul

As this is a remake and not a remaster, Dead Space incorporates many improvements. The Frostbyte engine not only advances the graphics quality to another level, but also the sound for quality immersion. A dynamic intensity manager will manage the environment (monsters, lights, smoke, etc.) depending on the situation. The heartbeat, breathing and efforts of the character (Isaac) will be perceived by the player to inform him of the state of his avatar.

One of the most glaring improvements remains the skinning system. Necromorphs, the monsters in the game, can shatter and shred to pieces. This perspective increases the repulsive effect during battles, but also opens up a strategic approach to them. New narrative elements will integrate this remake.

Conclusion

Dead Space the remake will be released on January 27, 2023 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. The standard version will cost €79.99, the Deluxe edition will be €89.99 with 3 unique outfits and 2 outfit textures. The Collector lists a price of $274.99.
