Deadly fire in La Louvière: an ambulance driver from the Hainaut Center rescue zone on site before the first calls for help

A fire with dramatic consequences occurred this Thursday evening in La Louvière. Two people lost their lives in the tragedy. Quickly on the spot, the rescuers of the Hainaut Center area could do nothing to save the two residents of the dwelling located at rue de Baume in La Louvière. Chance had however made that an ambulance was present on the spot even before the first warning signals.

This Thursday, a little before 6:00 p.m., the resources of the La Louvière rescue station in the Hainaut Center rescue zone were required for a violent fire on rue de Baume, an important axis in downtown Louviérois. As luck would have it, an ambulance from the post returning from a mission was passing by. The emergency call was therefore instantaneous, and the paramedics present were able to take the first steps to facilitate the intervention of their fellow firefighters.”, relates the Hainaut Center rescue zone.

Unfortunately, this quick and efficient work did not allow the men of the fire to save the two residents of the house. “The fire spread to the building in a very short time, and was of exceptional intensity. Additional resources from the Binche aid station have been requested. In the end, more than 20 firefighters fought the fire, in order to contain it, at first, and then to control it. Two pumpers, two aerial vehicles (self-ladder and self-elevating), two tank trucks, two command vehicles and up to three ambulances were mobilized, in addition to logistics vehicles responsible for resupplying equipment”, explains the Hainaut Center rescue zone before concluding.

The last means of the rescue zone left the scene at 02:50 this Friday. In addition to the damaged house, two other terraced houses were impacted. Two victims are to be deplored and have been pulled out of the rubble. The thoughts of all involved are with their loved ones and families.
