Deadly Suicide Bombing in Pakistan: Latest Updates and Investigation

Islamabad: The death toll in a suicide bombing in northwest Pakistan on Sunday has risen to 56. Bajaur District Deputy Commissioner Anwar ul Haq said the death toll is likely to rise further.

The bomb blast took place during a Jamiat Ulema Islam Fazal (JUI-F) party meeting in Khar, the capital of Bajaur, a tribal district in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

More than 200 people were injured. Maulana Ziaullah Jan, the party’s local leader, was also killed in the blast. The bomb blast took place in a gathering of around 500 people.

Many of the injured are in critical condition. 10 kg of explosives were used for the blast. Hospitals in Bajaur and nearby areas have been put on high alert. JUI-F chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman asked Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident. Chief Minister Azam Khan expressed his condolences. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.
