Delays persist in the delivery of the family basket in Cuba: Until when? 2024-03-30 21:23:36

Ruling media recognized, as happens month after month, that delays persist in the delivery of the family basket in Cuba. For example, Guantanamo residents are still waiting for their family basket and are wondering, how long will it be delayed?

According to the local newspaper of the easternmost of the provinces, Venceremos, the distribution of the basic family basket regulated in Guantánamo is delayed due to the lack of rice and sugar in the territory. The ruling party points out that the authorities prioritize completing the delivery of the seven pounds of rice and four of sugar corresponding to the month of March, but the products are not available.

The information details that Guantánamo “redoubles efforts” to transfer as quickly as possible 864 tons of rice that are in the port of Santiago de Cuba. This shipment would make it possible to complete the delivery of the four pounds of rice missing from the basic regulated family basket for the month of March, to which two pounds already distributed are added.

The delays in the basic basket continue in Cuba

The sugar shortage is more complicated, since so far, the first two pounds of sugar scheduled for early March in Guantánamo have been distributed, but an additional 360 tons are required to satisfy the territory’s demand.

National production is greatly reduced, and to date, only a little more than 40 tons have been produced at the Argeo Martínez plant. Work is being done to increase sugar production in the province, but this would not cover the demand.

Only the municipality of Caimanera and eight Niceto wineries have seven pounds of rice and four pounds of sugar complete. So the delays in the basic basket in this province of Cuba bite and spread. Of course, this situation is not exclusive to this province, since others are proceeding in the same way, despite the promises from Internal Trade.

In addition to rice and sugar, there is also a lack of oil, meat and beans.
