Delhaize Employees Strike: Updates on Store Closures and Franchising Controversy

2023-08-11 07:58:50

Fourteen of Delhaize’s 128 integrated stores were closed or blocked on Friday morning due to industrial action. This concerns 12 stores in Brussels and two in Liège. Delhaize sent bailiffs, said supermarket chain spokesman Roel Dekelver.

For the stores in Brussels, the management of Delhaize has a court order, the bailiffs will therefore reopen the signs, said Mr. Dekelver.

Concerning the two stores in Liège, the bailiffs will establish the facts on the spot. The spokesperson also indicated that everything was proceeding normally at the depots.

Delhaize employees have been opposing the lion brand’s decision to franchise the 128 stores that are not yet franchised for months.
