Mumbai: The Delhi Capitals are on the road to victory again in the IPL. In the first match played today, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 44 runs. Kolkata were bowled out for 171 in 19.4 overs with a target of 216. For Kolkata, captain Shreyas Iyer scored a half-century (54 off 33 balls, including five fours and two sixes). Nitish Rane scored 30 off 20 balls. For Delhi, Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets and Khalil Ahmed three. Shardul Thakur took two wickets.

In reply, Kolkata lost opener Venkatesh Iyer (8 off 14 balls) in the third over. Khalil Ahmed took the wicket. Khalil Ahmed then struck out Ajinkya Rahane (18 off 8 balls) in the fifth over. Earlier, Delhi lost the toss and opted to bat, scoring 215 for 5 in 20 overs. David Warner (61 off 45 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes) and Prithviraj Shah (51 off 29 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes) were the top scorers for Delhi.

Delhi got off to a dream start. In 8.4 overs, Delhi’s opening partnership scored 93 runs. Shah scored the 12th half century of his IPL career. In the end, it was Varun Chakraborty who made Prithviraj Shah bold and broke the alliance. David Warner then hit a six off Andre Russell off 35 balls to complete his half-century.

In the death overs, Shardul Thakur (29 not out off 11 balls, including 1 four and 3 sixes) and Akshar Patel (22 not out off 14 balls, including 2 fours and 1 six) smashed 200 runs.

For Kolkata, Sunil Narine took 2 wickets for 21 runs in 4 overs. Varun Chakraborty scored 44 runs in 4 overs and Umesh Yadav 48 runs for the loss of one wicket each. Andre Russell took one wicket for 16 runs in 2 overs.
