Dell converts the XPS 13 2-in-1 into a tablet with magnetic sleeve and stylus

Dell is completely overhauling its XPS 13 2-in-1 laptop today by unveiling a new design that’s a tablet instead of a slim laptop with a reverse hinge. 2022 model exchange reverse hinge For the XPS Folio keyboard case, which is very similar to Apple’s Magic Keyboard for the iPad. It magnetically attaches to the XPS 13 2-in-1 and allows the device to turn into a laptop rather than a standalone tablet.

The magnetic XPS Folio will support three angles: 100 degrees, 112.5 degrees, and 125 degrees, and there’s also a magnetic stylus attached to the top of the device for charging. Dell designed the XPS Stylus for both right- and left-handed use, and it should run for about 50 days on a full charge. Paper and pen will be sold separately.

This is also the first Dell XPS to offer optional 5G connectivity along with eSIM support. There will be two models available at the launch of the new XPS 13 2-in-1 capability later this summer. The standard Wi-Fi model comes with machined aluminum, while the 5G model has Gorilla Glass 7 back to eliminate signal interference and a darker slate color.

Inside, Dell makes use of the latest 12th generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors. You will be able to choose between files i5-1230U (10-core CPU, up to 4.4GHz) or version i7-1250U processor (10-core CPU, clocked at 4.7GHz). There’s also a choice between 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR4x RAM and up to 1GB of PCIe 4 SSD storage.

Dell uses a 13-inch 3:2 (2880 x 1920) panel, rated at 500 nits and supporting DisplayHDR 400. Port selection is limited to two Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports that both support DisplayPort and Power Delivery. Dell is dropping the headphone jack and even the microSD card reader on previous XPS 13 2-in-1 models, but the USB-C to USB-A adapter ships in the box along with the USB-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter.

Dell doesn’t seem to be giving up on cameras. There is a front-facing 1080p HD webcam (5MP) with Windows Hello support and a 4K (11MP) webcam on the back for video and photo capture.

The new Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 will launch this summer, but Dell hasn’t announced an exact release date or price yet.
