Hundreds of Sudanese demonstrated again on Sunday August 14 in the streets of Khartoum in support of a plan to end the crisis proposed by the army. The proposal of the Sufi religious leader Al-Tayeb al-Jed, supposed to bring back ” peace and security in the country, is supported by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane, author of the October putsch.

The Sufi religious leader claims to have gathered around his initiative 120 representatives of parties, brotherhoods and tribes. Since Saturday, Al-Tayeb al-Jed has gathered in Khartoum 120 representatives of parties, brotherhoods and tribes from different regions of Sudan. It proposes a roadmap to relaunch the democratic transition that the General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane’s coup abruptly stopped on October 25, 2021.

The famous Sufi religious leader wishes to guarantee a favorable environment for the holding of the elections promised for the summer of 2023 while putting an end to the economic crisis which the country is going through. He calls on the Sudanese to come together in support “to the army, reaching out to the factions” opposites » or having « reservations ».

In early July, General al-Burhane had proposed giving way to a civilian government, but the country’s main civilian bloc, the Forces for Freedom and Change, the FLC, sacked during the putsch, denounce a ” tactical and refuse to negotiate. Despite the repression, the defenders of a civil power continue to demonstrate every week. Since the start of the protests, doctors have counted 116 dead and thousands injured.
