Dengue Fever in Cambodia: Rising Cases and Effective Prevention Measures

2023-07-09 01:03:19

Health authorities have reported an upsurge in dengue fever in Cambodia, with more than 4,660 suspected cases reported between January 1 and June 26. This figure is 1.6 times higher than the 2,869 cases reported during a similar period in 2022.

The provinces of Banteay Meanchey, Kandal, Siem Reap and Tboung Khmum, as well as Phnom Penh, are the regions with the highest number of cases. The Cambodian Ministry of Health has distributed equipment such as mosquito nets and repellents to prevent and control the spread of dengue fever.

Dengue is a nationwide, year-round threat; however, transmission is generally higher from June to November, when environmental conditions are ideal for mosquito breeding. Cambodia reported 12,591 dengue cases in 2022, 1,811 cases in 2021, 11,977 cases in 2020, and 65,000 cases in 2019.
