DENVER – The No. 3 Denver Pioneers hockey team fell 7-5 to the No. 2 North Dakota Fighting Hawks on Friday night in the series opener at Magness Arena.

UND used four third-period goals to erase a two-goal deficit entering the final fame and earn the win in a meeting of two of the top-three ranked teams in the country. We can’t forget how this feels, and we’ll go about it the same way we always do. We’ll teach and try and get better.”

QUOTABLES
Richard and Kitzia Goodman Hockey Head Coach David Carle
On his conversation with the team after the game: “Pretty open and honest. It’s unacceptable, [leading] 4-1 and 5-3 in the first and second [periods]. We have to learn from it. We know we can score goals. We got to prove that we can keep the puck out of our net.”

On the second half of the game: “I thought both teams had chances in their moments. I didn’t really think we didn’t have chances in the second and third; we certainly did … I thought it was a good hockey game. Yeah, we’re on the wrong end of it. That’s a really good team over there. For a college hockey fan, that was really entertaining to watch.”

Alternate Captain Carter King
On falling to North Dakota: “I think it’s pretty obvious. Our defensive game wasn’t there. We weren’t willing to sacrifice our offensive chances to play the game we needed to play. We got to get better at that.”

On this being a learning experience: “Everyone’s got to get better, whether you’re a freshman or a senior. We all got to do our part … At the end of the day we’re a team here. We take a look in the mirror, everyone, and we got to get better all around.”
