The formations of the Clube de Amigos de Benguela and Desportivo Nelcat count this sporting season, for the first time, with senior women’s basketball teams.
In the current sports season, Clube de Amigos de Benguela will compete in the provincial and national championships, while Desportivo Nelcat will only be involved in the local championship.
The leader of the Clube de Amigos de Benguela, Hélder Pinto Leite, said that, due to the extinction of the Interclube de Angola nucleus in Benguela and the great difficulty in finding jobs, it was decided to create this women’s basketball project.
He mentioned that individuals and the CAB management came together to give these athletes an opportunity to continue competing, since they are young and have talent.
He explained that the project has already started, but they are still having difficulties with training camps, although they have already asked some institutions to overcome the situation.
He said that the club’s management has the support of businessman Bento Kangamba, who offered some amounts.
At this point, he said, the aim is to have a CAB that represents the reality of Benguela and with athletes from Benguela.
According to the leader, the sport tends to disappear year after year in the province, but the CAB and other strong forces in Benguela are doing everything they can to change the situation.
She appealed to businesspeople and beyond to embrace this project, as we are dealing with young girls with dreams, ambitions and who need help to live with dignity.
As for Nelcat, it already operates at provincial championship level at training levels.
