Egypt – A state of controversy arose in Egypt after revealing the details of a loud sports scandal that occurred several years ago against the backdrop of sending a number of Egyptians to represent a sports club for the blind in a world championship in a European country.
Immediately, the competent investigation authorities referred the former president of the Egyptian Blind Sports Federation, the vice president of the federation, the director of a department at the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, and others, to criminal trial, against the backdrop of the accusations directed against them.
The defendants were referred for criminal trial on charges of sending sighted people to a world tournament and the mission’s escape. They are: Ahmed M. A. – 46 years old, President of the Egyptian Blind Sports Federation, and Osama A. M. – 50 years old, Vice President of the Egyptian Blind Sports Federation, and Samir M. A. – 59 years old, Director of Administration at the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, and Field Marshal M. A. – 58 years old, Deputy Director of Indulge Tourism Company, and Tariq A. A. – 54 years old, owner of a tourism office.
The investigation authorities directed that the first and second defendants, who are public office holders, and the third, fourth, and fifth defendants, who are not public office holders, participated with another unknown person through an agreement between them and through assistance in committing the forgery of official documents by means of fabrication.
The referral order included a letter addressed to the president of the federation, the subject of which was a request for the club’s goalball team to participate in the Polish Championship. What was confirmed was the approval of the travel of the delegation members attached to the official lists, and that all players were registered with the federation, contrary to the truth.
The referral order added: The members of the Board of Directors of the Federation for Blind Sports, contrary to the truth, signed a cash receipt for the contracts of 4 players, contrary to the truth, with the signature of its issuance attributed to the Federation, and the Egyptian Federation for Blind Sports addressed the head of the central administration in the sports development program, for the Federation’s approval of the Al-Iman Sports Club’s request. The goalball team delegation traveled to participate in the tournament, which resulted in the Minister of Youth and Sports issuing a decision approving the delegation’s travel.
The referral order continued: This was with the intention of proving the registration of sighted players who are not registered in the records of the Egyptian Blind Sports Federation; For the purpose of issuing a ministerial decision approving the travel of the mission members, and the mission members fled after their travel.
The referral order continued: They agreed among themselves that the second accused would submit to bona fide public officials a letter of approval from the Egyptian Blind Sports Federation for the travel of members of the delegation, and the director of the federation and his deputy in turn wrote other letters to be delivered to the Paralympic Committee; In order to issue the ministerial decision subject to the first accusation, approving the travel of members of the mission abroad.
It is worth noting that the case dates back to 2016, and an order was issued to refer the president of the Blind Sports Federation and his deputy to trial on charges of sending sighted people to a world championship.
