Devastating Forest and Bush Fires in Maui: 2,000 Buildings Destroyed, 388 Still Missing

More than 2,000 buildings were destroyed by the forest and bush fires on Maui in the US state of Hawaii. (AFP / YUKI IWAMURA)

Authorities released a list of 388 people whose fate is still unknown. So far, the confirmed death toll from the Maui fires is 115.

Rescue teams continue to search through rubble and rubble from burned buildings. The US Coast Guard is conducting additional operations in search of people who drowned while fleeing the flames. According to the investigators, 85 percent of the destroyed area on the island has been checked so far.
