If you’re a fan of real black metal, nothing is too hard for you. What is just shouting to the outsider is a real treat to the die-hard fan. Since I stand somewhere between these two views, I stick with it right Black Metal is rather distant, but I can definitely get used to variants like Blackened Thrash.
Bands like Devastating therefore fall exactly into my profession. How good and fitting that the British band is now releasing their new album Conjurers Of Cruelty brings out.

And already the smoky intro Beyond The Gate teases the fan of a potentially big one that will follow and whets the appetite for eleven more pieces. Conjurers Of Cruelty also immediately shows where the journey is headed: hard thrash riffs a la Sodom chase through the whole song and, together with the vocals, bring out an unexpected brutality. Excellently crafted solos fit in nicely.

Motörhead and Mayhem

Black Witchery The rock’n’roll basic riff is reminiscent of legends like Motörhead. HERE you can listen to the song. After this smaller excursion, is Ritual Abuse On the other hand, another piece that steers more in the more classic Black Metal direction, and for laypeople like me, at times reminiscent of genre greats like Mayhem remind.

Deathspell Defloration starts off more leisurely and stays in your head thanks to its successful composition of various musical elements and riffs. This is crowned by another great solo towards the end of the song. Bestial Rites is then another short song that is carried by the bass and is consequently introduced with an intro played by T. Nachtghul.

A pure joy

And so the four thrash through the rest of the album. The listener never gets bored. Quite the opposite: you will be surprised again and again! The last regular song on the album, followed by two bonus tracks, is then included Rabid Morbid Death an almost eight-minute number that once again pulls out all the stops in terms of brutality and severity. Tempo and riff changes included. Sometimes a bit of NWOBHM even shines through here.

The band from Derbyshire, founded in 2017, makes it clear that this is what they want: In addition to obvious influences from Sodom, Venom and Motörhead, they also get a lot of inspiration from the music of their compatriots from the NWOBHM. Their fifth release is eagerly awaited by many fans all over the world and one thing is clear: they will definitely not be disappointed!

Conclusion
Devastating
tear on their latest work Conjurers Of Cruelty everything off. With their black’n’roll they thrash somewhere between black and heavy metal and at some points really make the listener’s head bang. Simply an incredibly entertaining album that leaves you wanting more! 8,5 / 10
