What a grand gesture from FC Bayern!
The record champions give third division club Viktoria Köln part of their ticket income from the joint DFB Cup duel on Wednesday (8:46 p.m.) in the RheinEnergie Stadium.
What does that mean in numbers? Both clubs are each entitled to 45 percent of the audience revenue, with the DFB collecting the remaining ten percent. But the people of Munich give half of their share to Viktoria – after all, around 150,000 euros!
A more than welcome help for the people of Cologne, who can count on an estimated profit of 750,000 euros. What is small change for Bayern is a lot of money for every third division team. In the 3rd league, the entire personnel budget for most clubs is just in the mid-single-digit million range…
Viktoria managing director Eric Bock (55) is correspondingly grateful: “In a game of this magnitude, that is anything but a matter of course and is unique in German football.”
Bock continues: “On behalf of the Viktoria family, I would like to sincerely thank FC Bayern, who are once again underlining their exceptional position with this gesture.”
Bayern President Herbert Hainer (68) explains the strong move as follows: “Many clubs are suffering from the consequences of the pandemic, and FC Bayern has always been known for supporting clubs in need. We are happy when we can make a contribution.”
Rarely is it so harmonious before a cup fight! On Wednesday evening, however, the cuddle course will be suspended for 90 minutes. Hainer: “We wish Viktoria Köln all the best for the future – with one small exception, we ask for your understanding with a wink: Of course we want to reach the next round in the DFB Cup, because we still have a lot planned in this competition. “
