DHL launches its first electric vehicle logistics center in Batam(Doc)

DHL Global Forwarding, a freight forwarding specialist from the DHL Group, launched the Batam EV Center of Excellence. The first electric vehicle (EV) logistics center in Asia located in Batam is here to bridge the gap in the electric vehicle ecosystem, and specifically serve the growing EV industry in this region.

The Batam EV Center of Excellence aims to contribute to the development of an integrated electric vehicle supply chain in Indonesia New electric vehicles including final delivery services are also being introduced to the local market.

Batam EV Center of Excellence offers a comprehensive and modular range of services, including inbound and outbound logistics with various modes of transportation, warehousing with value-added services such as battery inspection and charging, and after-sales battery handling.

This includes storage, recharging and dealer service for warranty issues, battery replacement and removal. The facility is also equipped with temperature and humidity controlled rooms, as well as a one-stop solution with space for general and dangerous goods.

Batam’s location close to the center of Asia Pacific manufacturing and trade activity positions it as a growing international hub, and an ideal location for the new EV Center of Excellence.

Customers can enjoy seamless connectivity to global markets without sacrificing waiting time, complemented by Batam’s Free Trade Zone and Special Economic Zone status which maximizes efficiency.

“Indonesia, with its abundant natural resources of nickel and cobalt, has an important position in developing an integrated EV supply chain. “In line with the Indonesian government’s goal to become one of the global EV battery producers by 2027, the establishment of the Batam EV Center of Excellence marks an important milestone to support this goal, while strengthening the local EV industry,” said President Director of DHL Global Forwarding Indonesia, Vincent Yong, Wednesday. The EV Center of Excellence is part of the first EV and battery logistics center in the Asia region, built by DHL Global Forwarding and developed in collaboration with the EV Team from DHL Customer Solutions and Innovation (CSI).

This pioneering EV logistics hub is a multi-user facility offering expansion support according to specific needs. This facility not only meets safety and security standards for optimal EV battery handling, but is also ISO 9001, 14001, and 22301 certified.

President Global Sector Auto-Mobility at DHL CSI, Fathi Tlatli said his party is committed to empowering customers with seamless connectivity and unmatched service excellence through the latest EV Center of Excellence.

Apart from launching the Batam EV Center of Excellence, DHL Global Forwarding Indonesia also introduced the newest electric van, which provides pick-up and delivery services in the Jabodetabek and Karawang areas.

The use of electric vehicles for these last-mile deliveries underscores DHL’s commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions, while helping customers to expand their eco-friendly footprint.

This electric van is equipped with a fast charging feature, so it can be recharged in just one hour. Capable of covering a distance of up to 300 kilometers on a single full charge, this electric van offers a reliable and environmentally friendly transportation solution. (Z_8)
