Dhofar Kharif Season 2023: Record Increase in Visitors and Expenditure

Muscat: The number of visitors to Dhofar during the Kharif season this year has registered an increase of 18.4 percent compared to last year. 962,000 visitors visited the Dhofar region, which includes Salalah, this season. 69.2 percent of these visitors are domestic visitors. Visitors spent an all-time record sum of 103 million Omani Riyals on various items during this year’s Kharif season in the Dhofar region. According to data released by Oman’s National Center for Statistics and Information, visitors in the 2023 season will increase by 18.4 percent to 962,000 visitors compared to the 2022 Kharif season.

Meanwhile, the number of visitors from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries reached 190,853, which is 19.8 percent of the total visitors. The number of visitors from Asian countries also increased to 68,100. 31,214 tourists from other Arab countries, 3,740 tourists from Europe and 1,982 visitors from other countries came to Salalah to enjoy Kharif.

There was also a 19.4 percent increase in tourist spending on accommodation in 2023 compared to the 2022 season. Tourists spent 33,068,567 Omani Rials on accommodation. This is 32.2 percent of the total expenditure; 25,598,657 Omani Rials were also spent on food and beverages, accounting for 24.9 percent of total expenditure. The total cost of travel tickets is 18.8 percent and travel cost is 19,268,818 Omani Rials.

Travelers also spent 24,693,979 Omani Rials on other items. Omanis accounted for 62.4 percent of the total expenditure. 64,007,411 Omani Rials were spent by domestic tourists while visitors from GCC countries spent OMR. was 23,080,186. GCC accounted for 22.5 percent of the total expenditure. It was spent by tourists. 6,316,147 Omani Rials were spent by visitors from the Asian continent. According to the report, tourists from other Arab countries spent 5,776,782 Rials and those from other countries 3,449,459 Rials for Kharif visits.
