“Diablo IV Microtransactions & Battle Passes: Details Revealed Ahead of Launch”

2023-05-10 23:18:18

One of the first things Blizzard was talking about after launching Diablo IV was microtransactions, battle passes, and more. Unfortunately, the game was still years away at the time, so the studio couldn’t go into detail. We’re now just over three weeks away from launch, which means it’s time to get the details.

This ends inlive streamingandblog, in which the developers talk about their post-launch plans for Diablo IV. The game will obviously have seasons, all of which will add new questlines, gameplay features, legendary items, battle passes, and make class balance changes. This also means you have to complete the campaign to participate in each season, which is why
Season 1 will begin in mid to late July.

The new questline will be separate from the main narrative, as only paid expansions will continue the story. Extensions aren’t the only thing you’ll have to pay for, either.

Blizzard reiterated that each season’s Battle Pass includes 27 free tiers and 63 premium tiers. The free ones reward you with cosmetics and what’s called a smoldering ember. This is a resource used to buy seasonal buffs – basically bonuses for XP, gold, or Ombre. You can start several of them at once, and they last until the end of the season. Are your Pay to Earn Alerts running? This isn’t as bad as it sounds, as you have to meet certain requirements in order to claim the smoldering ember needed to ascend.

Then there’s the premium tier. Acquiring these items will cost you the equivalent of $9.99 and will allow you to unlock that season’s exclusive decorations and Platinum currency, which can be spent in the shop to get cooler cosmetics or buy future battle passes. It doesn’t stop there, though, as Blizzard isn’t going to follow the trend of giving us Battle Pass rewards indefinitely. Players who don’t have the time to complete the battle pass by spending hours playing the game can buy what’s aptly called the Accelerated Battle Pass for the equivalent of $24.99. This gives you 20 level jumps and the Creator Wings emote. As stated a few months ago, none of the premium passes give you extra smoldering embers – only cosmetics and platinum currency. To give you a short and simple overview:

Battle Pass (free)

  • 27 floors
  • Cosmetics and Smoldering Ashes

Premium Pass ($9,99)

  • 63 extra layers, no smoldering ash
  • 2 sets of decorative armor for each class
  • Seasonal Mounts and Mount Armor

Accelerated Pass ($24,99)

  • Everything in the previous detailed version
  • 20 layers skipped
  • Creator Wings Emoticon

None of this will be part of the final open beta this weekend, so it pays absolutely nothing for the cool-looking players you meet there.

how does that sound
