Diane Kruger: “I hope to live up to Marlene Dietrich”

Since twenty years, Diane Kruger makes the big difference between Europe and Hollywood: she has worked with the most prestigious directors, from Quentin Tarantino to Fatih Akin Passing by Robert Zemeckis. Twenty years during which she won a Bambi (the German equivalent of our César), the recognition of the famous Screen Actors Guild, and the prize for the best female interpretation at the Cannes Film Festival. A well-filled CV which obviously earned her coveted by the biggest brands. The latest? Moët & Chandon, who invited the German star for his “Effervescence” evening. Nice sense of timing, since the career of Diane Kruger is precisely in full swing these days. The year 2023 will mark his return to the big screen with Marlowe and we can also discover it in Marlenea series in which she will play neither more nor less Marlene Dietrichinspired by the biography written by the icon’s daughter and directed by the aforementioned Fatih Akin (including the movie In the Fade earned her the greatest rewards of her career), and of which she is also a producer. Cherry on the cake, Diane has also just published his first book.

One-on-one with Diane Kruger

How are you these days?

I feel very happy, and I am looking forward to the Christmas holidays!

How does it feel to be back in Madrid?

I love Madrid. And I must say that the Ritz Mandarin Oriental is possibly my favorite hotel in the world. The place is amazing, and the staff is always attentive. They have the gift of making each of my stays memorable.

Do you have any special plans for Christmas?

We are going to go skiing with Nova [la fille qu’elle a eue avec l’acteur Norman Reedus en 2019] for the first time, we’ll see what happens [rires]. And we are also going to Copenhagen of course.

What can you tell us about your next film, Marlowefilmed in Barcelona and presented at the last San Sebastian Film Festival?

It is an adaptation of the book The blonde with black eyes from Benjamin Black [publié en France chez Robert Laffont]which features the legendary private detective Philip Marlowe. Liam Neeson is just perfect in the role, the context of Hollywood of the 30s suits him perfectly. I play the role of Clare Cavendishan enigmatic celebrity who hires the detective to find her lover.
