Digital media is coming under control in the country

Delhi: Central government brings law to regulate digital media in the country. The move is to introduce the bill in Parliament during the annual session. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is preparing a special law in this regard.

Online media must register with the Press Registrar within 90 days following the Act comes into force. The center can take action if the news is broken or the footage is given wrongly following becoming subject to the law.

Broadcasting of news, images, videos or graphics that are divisive in the society may result in cancellation of registration or fine. Online media will also face other legal actions. Registration may be canceled or fined. If online media houses object to the action, they can complain to the Press Council of India. Online media should operate according to the guidelines agreed upon at the time of registration. The restriction will apply to media viewed on all platforms, including mobile phones.
