Dima Hasao: The Switzerland of Northeast India - Explore the Pristine Beauty and Adventure

Assam’s Dima Hasao district was once known for militancy. But now this region is known as the Switzerland of Northeast India. Dima Hasao is famous for its pristine natural beauty and enviable climate that European countries lose out on. The tourism sector here is planning to develop more facilities for tourists. Tourism circuits are prepared in five areas namely Adventure, Environment, Rural, Agriculture, Cultural and Festival. Also, it aims to develop it as a completely plastic free zone and make Dima Hasao the cleanest district in India.

Dima Hasao is ahead of the trend of destination weddings. Umrangso here has been developed as a destination wedding tourism place. There is also a golf course in this very scenic area.

Dima Hasao is well connected with other parts of Assam and the country by road and railway network. The journey along the winding railways through the tunnels is unforgettable. This train journey takes travelers along the banks of mountainous rivers and over dozens of vintage bridges. After the launch of Vistadome tourist special train services between Guwahati and Haflong in August 2021, the number of tourists increased.

The city of Haflong has been famous since the time of the British for its wonderful climate and natural beauty. Still well-maintained in colonial style, the city has many gardens, well-planned footpaths, vehicular roads, residential houses and bungalows, golf course, motels, educational institutions, playgrounds and parks.

The world famous Jatinka village is located 9 km from Haflong. Ornithologists and tourists from all over the world come to see the migratory birds that feast here during the months of September-November.

Other places in Dima Hasao like Hajong Lake, Lysong, Maibang and Umrangso have facilities for mountaineering, trekking, rafting, water sports, eco-tourism etc.
