Disadvantages of the new generation F1 regulation pointed out by Fernando Alonso[F1-Gate .com]

Fernando Alonso pointed out areas where the new F1 regulations were below expectations after the first four races of the new F1 era.

F1 introduced a new and innovative technical rule in 2022. The switch from the overbody method, which generated downforce on the surface of the machine, to the philosophy of ground effect effects has radically changed the way car grip is generated.

The purpose of the new F1 regulations was to improve the spectacle of the race by reducing the turbulence coming out of the car and allowing subsequent drivers to stay in range for longer.

After four rounds, the general consensus was positive as F1 drivers were able to fight longer, but Fernando Alonso admitted that he could oppose it in his opinion.

“I may be a little more negative than others,” Fernando Alonso said.

“It’s certainly easier to chase the car. It doesn’t lose as much downforce aerodynamically as it used to, but the tires are still a problem to chase the car. It’s doing a lot of damage to the tires.”

Fernando Alonso said the car is likely to be quite poor in wet conditions due to the downforce of the ground effect as it speeds up and the floor approaches the truck.

Fernando Alonso missed a wet weather run in the Barcelona test due to a car problem, but pointed out that the car is not great at low speeds.

“I couldn’t drive in wet conditions in Barcelona because of a car problem in the morning, but I thought it would be difficult,” Fernando Alonso added.

“These cars are a challenge in low speed corners. Obviously they are slow to drive in wet conditions. Also, wet tires and it’s hard to heat them up.”

However, Fernando Alonso believes that the overall power map and the resulting gaps are largely unaffected by control.

While the goal of the new F1 regulations was to close the gap in the group and increase the likelihood of having many different winners, Red Bull and Ferrari appear to have a clear advantage in the early 2022 game.

As a result, Alonso claims that it hasn’t changed much, except that one front-running team (Mercedes) has retreated and another team (Ferrari) has advanced.

“The new regulation aimed to bring all cars closer and allow multiple teams and drivers to win the race,” said Fernando Alonso.

“I think the qualifying turn is still a result for each team, not for each driver.”

“I think sports should continue to investigate it in general and improve it.”
