Discarded school furniture from Gutau is put to good use in Moldova

The market town of Gutau has invested in equipping its compulsory schools in recent months. Six new blackboards and 90 “growing” pieces of school furniture (armchairs and tables) were purchased for the elementary school, as well as appropriate furniture for the teaching staff in the middle school. Both schools are very happy about this investment.

However, with the purchase, the community also faced the question of reuse or disposal of the furniture that was no longer used. Mayor Josef Lindner and head of office Michael Krämer made the decision to donate the furniture to a social project. The right contact for this project was quickly found in Tom Zuljevic-Salamon from TZS Sozialconsulting: Zuljevic-Salomon does committed social work with the AREAP association in Moldova.

Lessons for refugee children

After researching needs in Moldova, a suitable buyer for the school furniture from the Mühlviertel was quickly found. Moldova hosts a very large number of displaced people from Ukraine, including many children who need to be educated. For this you still need a lot of furnishings. The school furniture and blackboards from Gutau come in very handy.

Tom Zuljevic-Salamon was able to organize a semi-trailer truck with the support of Volkshilfe, which covered the costs of the transport. On December 12th, the school furniture was loaded onto a semi-trailer with the active help of school warden Christian Gangl, asylum seekers from Gutau and young people from the SAUM social project in the Perg district. Tom Zuljevic-Salamon and Mayor Sepp Lindner also pitched in. This extraordinary furniture transport ensures further training in Moldova for displaced children from Ukraine. The initiators of the project are convinced that they can provide sustainable help.
