This Wednesday, September 13, the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, presented the new El Campín Sports and Cultural Complex, a public-private partnership (PPP), which will modernize a 174,000 square meter industrial estate, with an investment of $2, 4 billion, to make it the meeting point of culture, tourism, recreation and sports in Bogotá.

In that sense, the Nemesio Camacho El Campín stadium, located in the town of Teusaquillo and inaugurated on August 10, 1938, will become a new covered stage that will accommodate 45,000 spectators.

“We are committed to positioning Bogotá as an elite city in terms of recreation, sports and culture, for the benefit of citizens. The current administration has worked hard to ensure that the capital has world-class venues, equipped with the best infrastructure and technology. This work comes so that the capital of the country can enjoy international events and modernize in urban planning,” said Blanca Durán, director of the District Institute of Recreation and Sports (IDRD).

Preoperational: Contemplates the preconstruction phase, estimated at 12 months and the construction phase of 3.5 years.

Operation and maintenance: It starts once the construction stage is completed and will end with the 29-year concession term.

In that sense, the project will have a completely new scenario for an approximate value of $600,000 million. With this initiative, work will be done on an approximate area of ​​106,500 square meters.

“The new stadium was conceived and designed to respond to the demands of large-scale international championships and tournaments, as well as to host world-class entertainment events and concerts,” explained the IDRD.

Likewise, the project will be carried out in stages to ensure that sports competitions and football continue without interruptions. The eastern stands will be built first, followed by the south and north stands, and the western stands and the playing field will be completed.

The Campín will have two levels of boxes, museums, a food, beverage, retail and restaurant area, as well as dressing rooms, locker rooms, a press room, a mixed zone, maneuvers and hospitality for athletes, all under the highest quality standards. .

The capacity of the stadium will go from 39,724 spectators to 45,000 distributed as follows: north stand today has capacity for 4,802 people and its new capacity will be 11,708. The south stand goes from 5,213 to 9,237 spectators. For its part, the eastern stand will go from 19,740 to 14,451 and the western stand from 9,969 to 9,604 people.

Other areas that stand out

Gastronomy area: the southern area of ​​the project will include a gastronomic area, terraces and public bathrooms, in order to generate a greater influx of public in the project area, especially when events are held in the stadium.

Parking area: this will be an underground area that will have entrances and exits on two sides of the property through two depressions. It will offer more than 2,000 spaces, including vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles, as well as spaces for people with reduced mobility, a taxi area and bicycle and skateboard rental.

Creative zone: the project includes a building with commercial premises, an event pavilion, unloading areas, a coworking area and an E-sports center, a discipline that has gained popularity in recent years, with spaces to interact and compete in digital sports.

Entertainment area: the building will have commercial areas, movie theaters, restaurants and children’s and family entertainment venues.
