Siargao: An Island of Charm and Transformation

Siargao, an island shaped like a teardrop, captivates with its blend of lush forests, mangrove ecosystems, and expansive rice fields. Water buffalo graze peacefully, and dogs casually nap, adding to the island’s unspoiled charm.

A Vision Born on Siargao

This charm drew Bobby Dekeyser, entrepreneur and founder of Dedon furniture, to Siargao with a vision. His initial concept was to establish “Dedon Island” as a showcase and source of inspiration for his furniture designs. He aimed to create “a property like those you see on postcards: palm trees on a beach of white sand, as fine as powder, with a lagoon behind,” as detailed in his autobiography, Not for Sale.

Tragedy and Transformation

In 2010, the idyllic landscape was struck by tragedy. While on the beach, Dekeyser received news that his wife, Ann-Kathrin, had fallen into a coma. She passed away before he coudl reach her side.

Nay Palad: A Resort Reborn

Despite his grief,Dekeyser maintained his deep connection to the island. After selling Dedon in 2016,he renamed the resort Nay Palad, which translates to “mother’s hands.” Together with his team, he transformed the resort into a space where guests can disconnect from daily stress and discover “the barefoot state of mind.”
