Discovering Saudi Arabia’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Conference Highlights and Cultural Conservation

The special session of UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee got off to a grand start in Murabba, Riyadh. The revised list of various World Heritage Sites will be approved by the Commission at the conference. The topic of destroyed heritage sites in Morocco will also be discussed. The UNESCO team will visit Saudi archaeological sites.

The 15-day sessions of the 45th UNESCO World Heritage Committee began with the opening ceremony at the Murabba Museum near Batha. The chairman position is currently held by Saudi Arabia. Riyadh is also witnessing the first meeting of UNESCO Heritage Committee members in person after four years.

Discussions related to various heritage sites of the world will be held in various sessions till September 25. Implementation of World Heritage Convention decisions, utilization of the World Heritage Fund, and determination of sites deserving of a place on the World Heritage List are topics of discussion. The conference of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee began with an impressive opening ceremony held at the historic Al-Murabba Palace near Batha.

A session at the conference supports unique cultural symbols, centers, and programs that go abroad in different cultures around the world. And Saudi Arabia, which is booming in the field of tourism, should be introduced to Saudi archaeological centers on a global level. As part of this, people from different parts of the world will visit six UNESCO heritage sites in Saudi Arabia, including Al Ula, Al Ahsa, Diriyah, Historic Jeddah, Hailil Stone Inscriptions, and Hima in Najran. The main sessions will be held at the Riyadh Faisaliya Hotel. The conclusion will take place in Murabba itself.
