Dismantling of Clandestine Pharmacies in Guerrero: Cofepris Seizes Drugs Stolen from the Health Sector

The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris), in coordination with the secretariats of National Defense (Sedena) and Navy (Semar), dismantled a network of 11 clandestine pharmacies in the state of Guerrero where traffickers of drugs stolen from the public sector.

In a statement, Cofepris reported the seizure of more than a thousand pieces of various medicines belonging to the Health sector, through intelligence work, in coordination with the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) and the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena), through the Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks of the State of Guerrero (Copriseg).

The network of 11 clandestine pharmacies was located on public roads, near the General Hospital of Acapulco, “El Quemado”, where elements of the Secretary of Public Security, the State Attorney General’s Office and personnel from the Acapulco city council also participated. Juarez, Guerrero.

In the place, the semi-fixed establishments installed irregularly were dismantled, and a thousand pieces of medicine belonging to the Health sector, including controlled medicine, were seized.

During the operation, a vehicle driven by a specialist doctor was detected, which was transporting controlled medication without proving the authorization to leave the hospital, for which reason two people allegedly involved were arrested.

The insured products were made available to the State Attorney General’s Office and the detainees were transferred to the Public Ministry, however one of them was released.

Cofepris calls on the general population to denounce companies, pharmacies, clinics and hospitals whose activity represents health risks, through a health complaint.
