Disney Plus announces arrival of Star Wars, Marvel and other themed channels

According to a new rumor from The Information, Disney Plus’ themed channels are similar to those found on free, ad-supported streaming services like PlutoTV or SamsungTV, and could somehow stream users’ choices in a profitable way for the company, which could enjoy additional advertising revenue.

Star Wars and Marvel content could be just one example, as Disney’s offering could also include channels where you can watch classic Disney animated films or Pixar films on loop. In any case, it’s almost certain that Disney’s service will include ads, even for subscribers.

Additional details about the launch of these channels have not been revealed, but given the mergers that Disney Plus is making, the rumor certainly seems plausible.

The news also reflects the growing popularity of free, ad-supported streaming, as evidenced by services like Pluto TV and others like it. A report published last week by Bloomberg revealed that US users spend more time watching Fox-owned Tubi than using services like Peacock, Max and Paramount Plus. With that in mind, a similar service will start in the United States and Canada, and then expand to other continents.

What do you think of this change in the business model of streaming platforms?
