From the beginning, my entry into +Europa, a choice made by virtue of the historic battles for individual rights and freedoms and for the initiatives undertaken together over the years, had the objective of making the party grow in the territories and adding themes, initiatives and new intentions.”

However, he underlines, «in recent times, I have witnessed a series of choices and directions taken by our secretary that I cannot agree with and which, reluctantly, I cannot support. I feel that recent decisions not only deviate from the essence of our founding principles, but also risk completely distorting the project for which we have all worked and for which we have sacrificed countless hours of commitment and passion. This alliance, anomalous for me, with Italia Viva is contaminating the Più Europa initiative with a way of understanding politics – that of Cuffaro and the New DC with its candidates, of Mastella’s wife or of Cesaro’s network in Campania – not very ‘European’ and very distant from our way of doing politics and our original mission. An alliance that did not put European issues or families at the center, but the sole intent of exceeding the 4% threshold and electing someone. An alliance that would not be forgotten the next day, as some hope, but which effectively puts an end to the novelty represented by +E so far.”

«After animated discussions and a very personal examination of conscience – says Pizzarotti -, I have come to the painful conclusion that my journey within the party must end here. The decision to step away was not taken lightly, but with the utmost respect for the ideals that brought us together and for the people who continue to fight for them.
